Remodel day!!! Finally.
I grabbed my ladder, new drill (sweet husband gave it to me for Christmas!), broom, knee pads, garbage bags, etc and headed over to the gallery this morning. I forgot to take a picture of the before scene, but you may go by and look in the windows. I’ll add a photo next time.
Today, I got the old, previous renter’s sign off the front door and some of the fluffy clouds off the front window. Started taking the big, ugly wooden display box apart. It’s all screwed together as if they were expecting a major seismic event at any time. Some of the screws must be 3 inches long! What WERRRRRE they thinking? I realized that part was beyond my skill-set and left the rest for Dave. I moved on to the big, ugly wooden desk and started to take it apart. The screw heads are those square ones. Can’t someone organize the screw-making industry? Or maybe they are organized and I’m…once again…outside my skill set.
I took off for Port Townsend and soothed myself at Akamai. Bought a new brush and some iridescent paint to try out.
So…I got a little bit done on the big, ugly wooden things. The big guns (Dave) will go in and take that puppy apart in about 5 minutes. Seriously.
Tune in again for more progress! Shirley Mercer

Here’s a before and after on the big wooden box. It took him a little longer than 5 minutes, but there were a lot of stripped and broken screws. We got everything taken apart and all the shelves down. So,things are moving along. Check back again for our progress! — Shirley

It’s gotta look worse before it gets better!
The ugly brown door jambs and trim are gone and the primer coat is applied. You can see the drywall “plug” leaning against the wall under the peek-through window. I got the Back-lit sign for the outside ordered today. It will say simply, “LARC Gallery.” Black on white. I have the owner looking into the parking lot lights as to why they are not coming on at night. I think that will be pretty important for the ArtWalk nights at least during the winter. So, spread the word–it’s happening! — Shirley

I left my camera at the Gallery, so…no new pictures. But…remodel is mostly done. We had about 15 artists come today to start hanging their work. All I can say is, “Wow!” It looks great and everyone was very patient during the intake and inventory. We hang again tomorrow and on Tuesday and the GRAND OPENING is Feb 1!!!
See ya soon! — Shirley

Looin’ Gooooood. I am very excited to be part of the new gallery. Looking forward to hanging my paintings and displaying my jewelry just before the GRAND OPENING on Februaru 1, 2013.
Hi, Shirley! I like the new page and the gallery space looks like it will work well for artists. Can’t wait to see it after the remodel is complete.
Thanks Jim!
More progress is always welcome. I like the web sight so far and am painting like mad to have lots of things to hang for GRAND OPENING.
I’m finding a bit of time today to do some matting & framing for the Grand Opening. Have fun painting.
Love the progress you’re making!
I am glad to see more galleries open opportunities for the many talented local artists. I have always hoped this would become an artists community. Keep up the good work!
